Below is an excerpt from the Flint Journal:
FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan — Sneaker treads and tires hit the asphalt Friday for the first official time on a near-completed trail.
About 50 community members, government officials and cyclists gathered Friday at the MTA Bus Shelter at the Genesee Valley Center to celebrate the official opening of Flint Township’s portion of the Genesee Valley Trail.
After the ribbon was cut, several cyclists — from those who ride thousands of miles a year to a child who still had training wheels — cruised down the path.
“It makes it nice to have a trail,” said cyclist David Beaulieu, 63, of Flint Township. Before the trail, he and his group of friends often would have to cut through subdivisions, he said.
